Greece! Rock! Ocean!

*grins maniacally*  Sorry, sorry!  Veeerrrry excited over here as I finally made the flight booking for our September week-long holiday in Kalymnos, in the Dodacanese islands of Greece.

As my last real holiday was back in Feb (Borneo, Chinese New Year, two sets of parents), I'm completely bouncing up and down about this one.  Particularly as summer so far in England has been complete rubbish, worst I've experienced in 6 years living here.

It's supposed to have an awesome range of rockclimbing cliffs and looks soooo amazing.  Range is good as I'm not the best climber and need the easier stuff!  The boys will be pushing themselves more and I'm keen on getting good positions hanging off walls to take fabulous action shots of them.

"Kalymnos is about 300 kilometers south east of Athens, and 100 north west of Rhodes..."

"Recently developed Kalymnos, has reached amazing popularity heights to the point of being recognized as one of the top-10 sport climbing destinations in the world. Not much else need to be said for the likes of Grantte Grotta, Sykati and Odyssey sectors..."

Woohoo!  Shame we're not camping (I know how much

queen_haqloves camping! lol) as there's none on the island.  So instead we get to stay at this place - pool, beach, breakfast, poolside bar!:

It's not until mid-September, I know, but it's something to look forward to.  And I'm heading off to the indoor climbing wall tonight to start getting into shape.  It's been months since I last hit rock, or even plastic!  There may be a weekend trip to Portland, Dorset sometime next month, and possibly we could fit in a Eurostar over to Paris to get to the boulderfields of Fontainbleau.

*happy dances away*

WoW! Looks absolutely fabulous! I love Greece, and hopefully in september it cooled down a little.
You will have a blast.

... rock climbing. Yikes! Sounds hard and dangerous...but Oh so fun.

Welcome back Stef!

This is my first trip to Greece, so it just adds to the excitement!

Yup, given how hot anywhere in the Med can get (as opposed to this summer in England, and apparently Germany as well hey!), we figured a cooler period would be better. Esply as you cling desperately, with sweaty hands and Elvis-legs, face inches away, to the rocky cliff face.

Hopefully still warm enough to dip into the ocean or the pool tho' :-)

Climbing is great fun. A good way to deal with a fear of heights! We just rock climb - no mountaineering and ice climbing for us, thanks! It's all about warm rock, cold beer, and good friends.

Man, no camping but staying at that 'dump'. Poor you, lol. All the swimming in the beautiful clean water and lounging, horror! Ha, you're going to have a great time, I feel it!

*dances with you and is glad you can't see the particular dance*
Jul. 25th, 2007 02:06 pm (UTC)
LOL! Is it a *disco* dance?!
Jul. 25th, 2007 02:24 pm (UTC)
LMAO! Maybe, you never know.

We so need a *disco* icon to go with all our *disco* comments. Preferably with Lazeema in it *nods*

OMG, we so totally do need the *disco* icon!
Someone make one for us!!!
Hey wait, Mandy, you've made your first icons - you make one!

Yes, as a camping fanatic, I feel absolutely horrid for you that you won't be staying on a muddy ground with no washroom facilities and instead be living it up in that "gorgeous" hotel with a pool nearby. Oh Cor. Sigh. Haha.

I didn't know you rock-climbed@! Check you out, you adventurous gal :)

Your vacation sounds wonderful, I hope you have a great time!

Hahaha! I thought you would sympathise on the lack of camping! :-)

I'm so looking forward to this break.

Mildly disappointed that it's not a real infinity pool overlooking the beach. Oh well, how I suffer for my sport!

Yeah been r/climbing since 2001, did the most in US and Canada when we were roadtripping for the 8 months. Love it!

Oh my God, that looks AMAZING! Ooooh, I wish I was tagging along. Have fun! :D

Thanks! I srsly can't wait.

Not sure if I'm building up too much high expectations tho, this early on!

Ack, screw it, with this English weather I need something to look forward to!

WOW. That looks just absolutely gorgeous. *so jealous* I don't know about the rock climbing part (sounds like you'll be, you know, actually sweating while on vacation!) but I can picture me by that pool with a cocktail.

*excited for you!!!* It looks incredible!
Jul. 26th, 2007 09:20 am (UTC)
I know! I know!

Cocktail by the pool sounds good! In fact, we may be going to Ibiza (oldtown, not the drunken yobby nightlife part) for a weekend in September for a mate's 30th - and that'll be high on the list of things to do!

Cocktail. Poolside. Kabana boy?!

Just thought I'd pop in and say "Hi!"

I'll be slaving away at TAFE, while you're sunning it up and I must say, that place looks gorgeous!

I loved Rock-climbing the two(?) times I've done it, but I'm terrified of heights!

Jul. 26th, 2007 11:01 am (UTC)
Hi Ines! *waves*

I was scared of heights too. Hence the perverse need to throw myself onto a rockface or rappelling of buildings/cliffs or bunjy-jumping in Queenstown! :-)

Indoor-climbing is a good way to get over it as well - it's more contained, can be very instructive, and a fab way to stay in shape!

So totally need the sun! We've had pretty much non-stop rain since May over here. I miss the sunshine back home in Oz!

I've been indoor once and it was really good fun, but that was about five years ago. I should definately look into going again!

It's not too sunny here at the moment either, but we did have sun on Wednesday. But I guess it's winter and we need as much rain as possible, so I shouldn't complain!

Wow, It sounds amazing! I'm sure you're gonna have a great time :)
Greece is a beautiful country, I went there two years ago and loved it.

Hahaha, Stolly! Great icon.
Yeah, never been before so I'm super psyched. There'll be rock, ocean, sun, and meze!
